Written in the autumn of 2014
Not all the leaves are falling
Not all of the flowers are dead
And the late summer rose is still blooming
High on the hill.
Not all the songs have been sung yet
Not all of the sonnets been read
There’s a half written tale in motion
The sun hasn’t set.
There is still some truth worth perceiving
Whispers of stories to tell
And I guess that I’m still believing that all will be well.
Not all the wells have run dry
Not all of the springs have been spent
Not all the rivers have yet
Run their course to the sea.
Strange creatures dwell in the ocean
Mysteries hide in the deep
Breakers still crash on the shore of an isle never seen.
There’s starlight that hasn’t yet reached us
From thousands of light years away
Not all the frontiers have been travelled
There’s stakes still unclaimed.
There are friendships that haven’t yet flourished
Letters that haven’t been sent
There are words that are waiting for courage that need to be said.
There still is a love to find yet
There still is a battle to win
There is room in the inn for a woman
Who carries a dream.
There are trials that have to be gone through
Sorrows that haven’t been sensed
There’s a house on the hill still to build
With a white picket fence.
There are children that I haven’t met yet
Babies known only to God
There still is some life yet unwritten, a path to be trod.
There still is some life yet unwritten, a path to be trod.
Not all the leaves are falling
Not all of the flowers are dead
And the late summer rose is still blooming
High on the hill.

Sunset Road
03:11
|
|
||
Written in the autumn of 2014
I am happy living here in the shadow of these hills
As the sunlight casts its glow across the land.
And my feet are tired of running and my mind wants to be still
The country air dissolves my city plans.
I never want to run away again
I never want to run away again.
’Cause I love this sunset road
When I’m travelling back home.
Through the four walls of my day
I don’t know if it’s blue or grey
But then the evening is a canvas painted gold.
I love the winter mornings when the eye can see for miles
The naked trees stand sentry on the plains.
And the cattle turn to greet me and forget the frost awhile
The sunrise serenades me once again.
There’ll come a day I’ll go away again
I know someday I’ll go away again.
But I love this sunset road
And I’ll be always travelling home.
Different roads take me away
But they will bring me back someday
To these purple hills and these familiar skies.
Yes I love this sunset road
When I’m travelling back home.
Through the four walls of my day
I don’t know if it’s blue or grey
But then the evening is a canvas painted gold.
When the sun is going down, a certain magic fills the air
The golden glow ignites the auburn flame
Of the autumn trees who’ve seen more seasons that I’ll ever know
When I’m gone, they’ll face the sunrise just the same.
Yes I love this sunset road
Even though my heart may roam.
Different roads take me away
But they will bring me back someday
To these purple hills and these familiar skies.
If I’m home or far away
If I’m feeling blue or grey
I’ll always have this sunset road.

Miss You
03:16
|
|
||
Written in the autumn of 2008
In this moment, right or wrong, I miss you
Forget the bad and let the good appear.
I remember when you broke into my heart
And recognised the hidden colour there.
There are times I notice you are absent
The missing note in this harmony.
When I see you we are talking without talking
Just smiling to avoid avoiding.
And I miss you then
Yes I miss you then.
I miss the way you sound when you are laughing
I miss the way we’d walk and talk for hours.
My car keeps trying to turn into your driveway
But I set it straight ’cause things are different now.
And I miss you then
And I miss you then.
I know it’s for the best that I don’t see you
I’ll let you walk your road and I’ll walk mine.
A better love is waiting to break in again
I won’t interrupt this dawn, not yours, not mine.
I let go again
I let go again.
I still miss you friend
But I let go again.

Walk On
03:46
|
|
||
Written in the autumn of 2010
This time you came so close
You took the risk and let him in
Then you had to let it go.
And the corners of your heart
Are forever changed by love
Your feet of peace still walk the path.
Somewhere in the distance
You can hear him call your name.
Walk on down the road
Where the light meets your hope.
Close the gate softly behind
As you say goodbye.
Breathing out and breathing deep
Knowing one day it will fit
One day love will meet with peace.
And the way is clear for you
Keep your head and find your stride
Discover something new.
Somewhere in the distance
You will hear him call your name.
Walk on down the road
Where the light meets your hope.
Close the gate softly behind
It’s all right to cry
As you say goodbye.
And though the rain is falling
Tender tears upon the broken land
The promise still remains, the promise still stands
And you know it, you hold it in in your hands.
Walk on down the road
Where the light meets your hope.
Close the gate softly behind
As you say goodbye
Walk into the light.

Sometime
03:22
|
|
||
Written in the autumn of 2008
I don’t know if you want to hear this
I don’t know if I want to tell.
Every heart has its secrets
Even hearts that you know well.
Oh sometime, sometime
Sometime I will tell.
I keep thinking through the options
Wondering if you need to know.
’Cause if you knew things then it could change things
So I’m just taking this real slow.
Oh sometime, sometime
Sometime I will tell.
Oh the clock of indecision
Keeps on ticking in my head.
I would like to tell my story
But you might tell me yours instead.
Oh sometime, sometime
Sometime, sometime
Sometime, sometime
Sometime… time will tell

Kaleidoscope

Written in the summer of 2010
All the little pieces of my life are gathered here
Spinning round and around
Beauty in the chaos
As I hold the pieces to the sun
Something true is found.
And if you slow your eye and take the time, you’ll see
The shape of something new is coming clear in me.

Aubade
04:39
|
|
||
Begun in the autumn of 2008, completed in the autumn of 2014
Deep and dark the river runs
Through the long forgotten years.
Inky black the channels come
Filled with shadows, filled with fears.
Rising through the ocean tides
Through my dreams into my waking hours
I start to weep
As I fall back asleep.
In the glow of silver light
Something deep inside is waking.
Rising from its hidden bed
From the place where it’s been breaking.
Stand to see the sun again
At break of dawn there’s no mistaking
You’ve been by my side
I’ve woken to the light.
When evening fades and morning breaks
You call forth songs of joy.
Tomorrow brings the scent of spring
The season for singing has come.
Through the layers, through the years
Searching, seeking, ever finding
Pieces of the girl I was
Trapped in time, lost in hiding.
Peace and healing comes
I can hear your voice reminding me
I’m not alone
You’ve been with me all along.
I’ve learned to love, learned to see
Learned to hear your voice inside me.
I have learned to rest and be
I have felt your arms around me.
And when I am lost at sea
I am found ’cause you surround me.
Tears come in the night
But you are my sunrise.
When evening fades and morning breaks
You call forth songs of joy.
Tomorrow brings the scent of spring
The season for singing has come.
I hear your call
Awaken the dawn.

Echoes of Eternity
03:43
|
|
||
Verses written in the summer of 2011
Chorus written in the autumn of 2014
I guess I thought we’d have forever
But I never say that now
’Cause you’ve been through all sorts of weather
And made it through somehow.
But we get old and we get tired, and our bodies start to fade
And forever keeps on falling till we just have today.
I believe we will meet again.
When I look up at the sky or over the sea
I will think of you.
Your body renewed, your mind at ease
I hear echoes of eternity.
And the hope that’s holding you is holding me.
Last goodbyes are never easy
You can’t practice letting go
And there’ll be things I wish you could see
Things you’d like to know.
You’ll never see me in my white dress
Or hold my first baby
And today is fading fast into memory.
I believe we will meet again.
When I look up at the sky or over the sea
I will think of you.
Your body renewed, your mind at ease
I hear echoes of eternity.
And the hope that’s holding you is holding me.
When I look up at the sky or over the sea
I will think of you.
Your body renewed, your mind at ease
I hear echoes of eternity.
And the hope that’s holding you is holding me
In God we trust and rest in peace.

Forest
02:54
|
|
||
Written in the autumn of 2009
I can walk freely
No passive silence
And breathing slow and deep
I walk the path you cleared for me
I move like dreaming…
Through the way that you
Through the way that you made clear
Through the forest of my fears
The trees that crowded…
Crowded in on me
While darkness shut me down
Now I walk in peaceful power
They keep their distance
They make way for me
No more trapped in shrinking pain
I am moving once again.
I don’t quite understand what you have done
Only have the thinnest grasp of what you’re doing now.
But this I know and this I see
That you were strong enough to love me
And you came in and got me.

Legacy of Love
04:12
|
|
||
Written in the autumn of 2003 for my grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary.
Many years ago a man and his wife, vowed till death us part.
She was the colour in his life, and he held her hand
Whenever things got rough.
Now time’s gone by and love’s still strong.
Love has gone the distance along the road of life
Tried and true they’ll make it to the end.
Love has gone the distance and even when they’re gone
This legacy of love, this legacy of love will carry on.
Picture perfect fades, they face it hand in hand
The unexpected pain, they try to understand.
A gentle love made strong by the sunshine and the rain
Love has overcome.
Now time’s gone by and love’s still strong
Now time’s gone by and love’s still strong.
Love has gone the distance along the road of life
Tried and true they’ll make it to the end.
Love has gone the distance and even when they’re gone
This legacy of love, this legacy of love will carry on.

Written in the winter of 2015
You don’t have to hold it all together
I am holding on to you, so you can let go.
You don’t have to wear a sunshine smile in any weather.
When it’s fine let it shine
When it rains let it pour
You don’t have to hold on anymore.
Let it rain, let it rain
Let your tears fall down and cleanse your heart again.
You know how the story ends
The sun will come up in the end
But while there’s pain, let it rain.
You don’t have to hold all the answers
There are sources in this world that are greater than you.
Leave room for mystery, make space for second chances.
When you’re strong carry on
But if you fall to the floor
There’ll be arms to pick you up once more.
